Q: Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?
Boy, do they ever! I'm a huge mood reader, which means I'm pretty finicky when it comes to reading what types of books when. I actually usually don't even know what type of book mood I'm in until I'm reading a book and it just isn't clicking, or it immediately clicks and I fly through it. Thus I'm usually 'reading' several books at a time, each a slightly different genre or story type, and pick them up depending on what I want to do.

Fair answer. My habits don't necessarily change my genre, but a bad mood will often drive me to switch things up.

Though my mood doesn't make me change books, its the book itself that makes me! hehehe..

I don't know if I really have reading "moods" but I definitely find myself having a hard time getting into certain books sometimes. Sometimes I'll have to put a book down because I'm not into it, but I'll pick it up later and LOVE it. It's weird haha.

I wish I was able to read several books at a time- my brain doesn't function that well :'( I'm a new GFC follower !

hmmm. good answer. I can see how this would work. although I would jumble all the stories together and never finish any book!

Hopping through. I often read several books at a time too and pick whichever book I feel like reading at the moment.

I've never had that talent of being able to have multiple books going at once. More power to you!

following you back :)
I'm typically not a multi-book reader! I read really fast so it's just too hard to manage going back and forth for me. I do sometimes start one, realize the mood isn't right and put it down to find one that will. Once I finish the second one, I go back.
ReplyDeleteJust not the back and forth that most multiple book readers do! I just can't do it, I always forget what's going on or mix the stories.
I know the feeling entirely. I'm the same way, and I can't usually read multiple books. So I usually start one and have to stop if I can't get into it at the moment. It's annoying because you never know what you're in the mood for until you start reading the right book.

I'm the same way. I have no idea that I don't want to read that particular book, usually until I'm deep into it. Thanks for stopping by our FF. New follower.
ReplyDeleteI can read up three different books at a time but I usually just wind up getting confused and switching out one for another!
ReplyDeleteNew follower here, how is it that I wasn't already following you? Oh well, I am now! Yay! Love this blog! Thanks for stopping by My FF!
Happy Friday! Hopping through!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, sometimes I'm also pretty finicky and it takes me a while to find the right book for my mood, but I usually end up picking a good one and enjoying it! :)
New GFC follower! :)
Here is my FF post: http://blogofabookaholic.blogspot.com/2012/08/feature-and-follow-friday-3.html
This was basically my answer, as well. When I'm not feeling it I flit around from book to book! I always feel bad about it too... oh downward spiral! I'm a new GFC follower!
ReplyDeleteMy FF
I feel the same way you do. If I start a book and I'm just not in the mood for it, I put it down. I did that just last week to a book that I don't think was a bad book, I just wasn't in the mood for it.
ReplyDeleteFollowed you back via GFC!
Happy Friday!
I find I go through stages of genres. But when I'm sad or angry I it changes how I'm enjoying the book, so I usually change genre at that point.

I'm not a mood reader, but I will gravitate to lighter books if I'm not in the best of moves.
My mood doesn't affect my reading.
