Review: Secrets, Monsters, and Magic Mirrors: Stone Arch Fairy Tales Volume 2 by Donald B. Lemke

Overall Impression:  1/2

Source: Netgalley

Publication Date: Aug 2011

Short synopsis (Goodreads)Five of the world's greatest fairy tales are retold in the popular and attractive graphic novel format. Beautiful, bold illustrations give these timeless tales a modern edge. The stories include Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel, Princess and the Pea, Snow White, and Thumbelina.

My Review: I mainly read this to look at the illustrations and in that respect I was satisfied. The styles of animation were varied and seemed to go along with the stories well. The stories themselves, however, were too simplistic for my tastes and only covered the bare minimum. I did appreciate, however, at the end of each story it told some of the background of when it started, first came into print, about the person who created, etc. and I found that to be quite enlightening.

Overall, not something I'll come back to, but it was a decent enough read for a Saturday afternoon. The illustrations are what brought this up from a 'Did Not Finish.'
