Follow Friday

This is my first participating in this great networking event hosted at Parajunkee! This weeks question is:

Do you judge a book by its cover?

How apropos! My Waiting on Wednesday meme this week focused on this precise thing! To answer the question, I do! All the time, unfortunately. Here's the example I wrote about. Below you will find two book covers. Same book but the first is the paperback UK cover and the second is the US hardcover edition. Which would you rather have on your shelf? (REALLY looking forward to reading this book, so much so in fact, that I ordered it internationally....just so I could get the good cover!)

  4. I also tend to judge the books by their covers! Sad but true. Though I will never buy a book with a nice cover, if I don't think I'd like it. :)

As for those covers, I would definitely choose the first one! Which one did you pick? ;)

I'm a new follower! My FF can be found here!

  5. I agree. I would not look twice at the 2nd cover.

  6. I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.

I expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog - http://www.howardsherman.net

    Thank God it's Follow Friday!?

  8. Agreed, I would of ordered a international copy as well! US does get a lot of horrid covers! :(

I think we all judge a book, whether we want to or not. As long as there are words to paint a new world for me I'm happy.

Please Stop by, I'm starting a new with a fresh look.  Let me know what you think.

  9. I'm attracted to pretty covers but I don't let that dictate whether I read the book or not! I usually rely on bloggers' reviews before picking up a book :)

New follower! Have a good weekend :)

  10. I agree. The top UK cover looks amazing compared to the US one. I wouldn't even give the US cover a chance to see what its about cause it looks like it could be from the 80's. Looking at the UK cover, I'd at least check to see what it's about:)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and following! I am returning the favor and following you also:)

  12. Hopping back! I do still grab a book for the pretty cover but I've been burned before so I investigate first. I have bought different versions of a book I love just to get the better cover.
