Overall Impression: *****
Short synopsis (Goodreads): Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She's never known any others of her kind. Until now.
An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River-one that her father's people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help...
My Review: So...I love Mercy, I love the world that Patricia Briggs created so seamlessly with our own (seriously, if I were to walk through the tri-cities area I would totally be keeping an eye out for Mercy, Adam, Warren, Jessie and the rest of the gang...probably find them too, but they wouldn't admit it I'm sure...) and I will re-read them at least every year when she comes out with a new installment. That said, this wasn't my most favorite. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED IT! I really, really did, but I think because I had re-read the series a few months ago and hadn't quite gotten around to re-reading the 5th one right before this, things kind of felt....disjointed. I was able to put myself back in the world, but because we learn about so many new things and don't interact with as many of the usual characters, it was a little harder for me. This doesn't mean I didn't enjoy immensely learning more about Mercy and her heritage, it just wasn't as seamless as other times.
So yeah, I loved it, and can't wait for the next one, but will probably love it more when I re-read them all again in order and within a weeks time.
Also, the cover art (and I like this one as opposed to the other one that goodreads insists on showing instead) kind of reminds me of ...whats-her-face, the one from Twilight...um...Kristen Stewart, yea. Not really a fan of her, and Mercy is about a bajillion times cooler, but just throwing that out there.
