2010: 365 days that felt like 365 seconds

I’ll pretend like I’m really a part of the blogging scene and do what everyone else seems to be doing, a review of 2010. Can you friggin believe that a year has already past?!? I seriously cannot. It usually takes me a few weeks to get writing a new year number down, and even then, randomly, I’ll embarrass myself by doing it again a few months later. Oh well, people already assume I’m weird, so what’s one more little thing like a wrong year going to do?

Anywho, on to the categories:

Best End to  Series (YA/ MG): Fablehaven- Keys to the Demon Prison. HOLY COW! This was another series that I started this year. I’d been putting it off a long time. I thought that it would be too little kid-ish, kind of like The Spiderwick Chronicles. Not that that was a bad series, but I wanted something with action, romance, strong characters, etc. The Fablehaven series has these in SPADES! I really hope that this is not the last we hear about this world from Brandon Mull, but I am really looking forward to what he has in store for us with the Beyonders. Please let it be just as good as the Fablehaven series! Runner up: Gregor the Overlander series. This one had another really great ending. Love Suzanne Collins!

Best series discovery: the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Oh My GOODNESS! Love these books to death! They have everything! A strong female lead, hot werewolves, vampires, the fey, sweet love stories, action….I just can’t get enough! My friend Emily introduced me to these and I will never go back. Reviews to be posted in a little while as I re-read everything to gear up for the new release.

Biggest Surprise: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. This one I had heard a lot of people liked, but I didn’t want to give it a try because it seemed outside of my interest zone. I love England, so that made me at least consider it, but it was about war and seemed a little too literal for my tastes, I prefer the fantasy genre. A roommate of mine REALLY loved this book and so I decided to give it a try. THE most ADORABLE book ever! Seriously! I just couldn’t get enough of it! The letter writing style worked perfectly! I didn’t know if it would, but it really adds a nice depth to the story and the characters are so deep! I simply cannot use enough exclamations points when talking about this book! A must read!

Book that made me cry: Sing Me to Sleep. It still makes me sad and happy just thinking about it. A hauntingly sweet tale. I didn't even cry when Sirius died (if you didn't know that already, sorry, you deserve the spoiler. When that happened, I was too stunned, didn't want it to be real.) This book however is very realistic, I was able to really relate to Beth (but more on that in the review, lots to catch up on!) Plus, look at that COVER! Can I say adorable again? It's adorable!

Best 2010 release: Incarceron. I realize that this was published in the UK a few years ago, but it didn’t make it to the US until the beginning of this year. SO glad it did, I seriously can’t wait to read the next in this series! (It’s already out, I’ve been waiting so long! Hopefully my library gets it soon or I’ll have to start saving up some Washingtons)

Biggest Disappointment: I really didn’t think I would need this category. I usually start a book and if I can’t finish it, oh well, move on. However, as I thought about it some more I realized that there was one book that I actually finished and was completely disappointed with. This unfortunate book happens to be the second in the Leland sister chronicles, Betraying Season. This had too much, I don't know, too much hocus pocus. The first in this series wasn't over the top, but this one came up with The Goddess out of nowhere and it didn't add to the story at all. Runner up: Only the Good Spy Young. I really liked this series in the beginning. Kick butt secret agent chicks, what’s not to like? However, this one had too much drama in it and not enough explaining. The end for me was way to diva-ish and just made me not want to continue with the series.

And that about finishes off the list. What can you tell about me from this list? My reading varies fairly widely and erratically. There are SO many good books out there, though! Hopefully this year I’ll keep better track and have some more amusing categories to share with you. I am, after all, participating in the 2011 Debut Author challenge, so that should provide some excellent fodder for review!

Wishing you all the best!
